Flourish Exhibition - part of The Amazon Rainforest series
I go to nature to be soothed and healed and have my senses put in order..........John Burrows apt response has resonance here.
New works recently finished for the Espacio Gallery Flourish exhibition in May which will be running in conjunction with the Chelsea Fringe festival 2017....my works in watercolour are a response to conservation issues within the Rain forests of Amazonia I endeavour to depict the natural beauty and diversity found in these forests.
Vibrancy of colours, intricate patterns...beauty found in the Rainforests
The exhibition is a group show following the theme of nature - the term flourish conjuring up a sense of organic growth and matter within plants, flowers, trees etc.
I will be exhibiting recent watercolour paintings including large and small scale images. These works part of an ongoing series titled 'Natures Gems' concerned with conservation of ecosystems -The works are are informed by and based on the natural habitat found within the Amazon rainforests, through these dynamic colourful works I hope to encourage the viewer to engage with the diversity and wonder of the natural world and consider our response toward protecting these vital ecosystems on our planet.
Here is the progression step by step detail of one particular watercolour Bird of Paradise that I am working on, the photo source image was taken of plants whilst I was visiting the Eden Project UK
E.B White's words have some significance in these times....................." I am pessimistic about the human race because it is too ingenious for its own good- Our approach to nature is to beat it into submission, we would stand a better chance of survival if we accommodated ourselves to the planet - and view it appreciatively...........(taken from Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring, 1960s)
