Past works connecting with present proposal preparations

Here are a number of past works that link in with my present project proposal that I am considering
to add as part of my presentation

Tahrir Squire 2011 Charcoal
Image from magazine charcoal

these works were produced in connection with a project focussing on current socio-political issues that in some way resonated with me also the idea that charcoal can have symbolic
connotations in certain religions as a symbol of repentance a turning away from.....
Also the idea that charcoal is from wood burned-charred and can be used as an instrument /tool to communicate visually events in current societies....to be continued

Artists who influence and inspire.

Whilst I was researching for my dissertation which will be based on the effects of war dating from Vietnam  to the recent effects of the Iraq war concerning media interpretation of the events,I have been researching Dora Apels accounts through her book concerning control of the Image via mass media. Susan Sontags work Regarding the Pain of Others Judith Butlers work .Elaine Scarry. Jaques Delueze on passivity and the scream within art. Jacques Ranciere. Bertold Brecht. Micheal Foucaul plus more to come

THE ARTISTS contextualising work ......

Leon Golubs art work has been particularly influential over the last couple of years. His large scale work depicts the effects of power in society his focus is on perperator and victim  a dark  subject matter that has both a challenging  and sobering effect on the viewer.Leons work emerged from the  impact of events culminating from the American involvement in the Vietnam war consequently thereafter his work has depicted an unveiling of the the structures of power." Golub understood violence ,not as an isolated inhuman phenonomen but as anexpression of power and powerlessness all too human conditions (Bird ,J, 2011, p11) to be continued .........

Yes!! it has been a while..... thankyou for your continued support and visiting my blog it has been encouraging to me to see visits to the sight over the summer.
I am now starting back at UCS my final year, a dissertation to hand in before Christmas and a Degree show to prepare for in                                                                June 2014 so alot going on.

As part of my final year I have to decide on a project topic theme.

Ai Weiwei Exhibition Seville 2013

Finding inspiration.....
  1. Throughout my time at UCS I have focused on producing work concerning social political content.I am interested in the dynamics of how individuals and societies function particularly concerning power structures that impact in particular those marginalised within society.
  2.  Initial key influences have stemmed from past and present inspirational figures within society such as Nemoller, Ghandi, Luther-King, Rosa luxemberg,Louise Michele Aung San Suu Kyi,Brian Hawes, Nelson Mandela.Chico Mendes ,and Frans Krajberg to mention a few......
  3. Being inspired after visiting the Berlin Wall in 2012 and experiencing the strong depth of  socio-political activism there, and the impact of  street graffiti enabled me to further develop an appreciation for the scope that visual art can have on a personal level and in  the public space and  the realisation that art with social content does have its place in society and being able to express ones views apart from the influences portrayed via mass media is vitaly important as it gives an alternative perspective to the dominant discourse which can only be a healthy thing other wise we are subjected to a topdown only one way brainwashed  mentality .....to be continued

Dont walk in front of me I may not follow,
Dont walk behind me I may not lead,
Just walk beside me and be my friend .

It was encouraging to see in today's news that artist musicians are collaborating on behalf of the poor, being reminded that Nelson Mandela's voice in the 1970's can still motivate and resonate with  musicians and artists today........... to use there abilities as a platform to fight against ongoing Injustice.....
So many have done this down through  the years it needs to continue...............I am also  reminded that  'You dont have to be perfect to do somthing good'.
Im reminded of  many courageous ones as       Nelson Mandela
                                                                          Aung San Suu Kyi
                                                                          Gandi
                                                                          Martin Luther-King

                                                                          Brian Hawes
                                                                          Louise Michelle
                                                                          Rosa Luxemburg
                                                                          Chico Mendes
to name a few and the many unknown unsung ones and ones yet to be discovered ones yet to be born
ones yet to rise up. Nelson Mandela ' its time to set them free.... sometimes it falls upon a Generation to be great, you can be that great Generation.
